The Tulane track and field team will continue its outdoor season with a trip to North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State, beginning March 26. The three-day event will be held at Paul Derr Track Facility from Thursday through Saturday.
This meet is significant as it provides an opportunity for both the men’s and women’s squads to compete in a wide range of events against national competition. Fans can follow the action with live broadcasts on ACC Network Xtra during select hours each day, and live results are available via Flash Results.
According to Tulane’s announcement, the team will participate in most events over the weekend. Thursday’s schedule includes javelin, men’s 1,500m, 3,000m steeplechase, men’s 5,000m, and men’s 10,000m. On Friday and Saturday, Tulane athletes will take part in events such as women’s discus, sprints and hurdles races for both men and women, relays including the women’s 4x100m and 4x400m teams, as well as various jumping and throwing competitions.
Last weekend at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette marked a strong start to Tulane’s outdoor campaign. Cara Salsberry finished third in discus with a throw of 46.76 meters—fourth best in program history—and set the second-best hammer throw mark ever by a Green Wave athlete at 57.97 meters while winning that event. Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas won the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.81—the ninth-fastest performance all-time for Tulane—as part of seventeen top-10 finishes across all events for the team.
Three Green Wave athletes currently hold top-50 marks nationally this season: Lee Harris is ranked thirty-sixth in men’s 100 meters after running a time of ten point forty-one seconds; Dumonteil Cabanas is forty-first nationally with her recent hurdle performance; Salsberry’s hammer throw stands thirty-third among collegiate competitors.
Looking ahead after Raleigh Relays, Tulane’s schedule continues next week with participation in Texas State’s Bobcat Invitational from April second through fourth before heading to College Station for Texas A&M’s invitational April ninth through fourteenth.
