Tulane track athletes earn multiple runner-up spots at LSU Twilight meet

Tulane University’s track and field team concluded its indoor season at the LSU Twilight meet in Baton Rouge on Friday. The event, held at Carl Maddox Fieldhouse, saw several Green Wave athletes achieve personal bests and secure four second-place finishes.

Alexander Montoro contributed two of Tulane’s runner-up placements. He finished second in the men’s 200 meters with a time of 23.24 and repeated this result in the men’s 400 meters, clocking in at 51.03. Eliza Brand secured second place in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:15.40. Morgan Matthews also achieved a runner-up finish, setting a new personal record of 10:10.51 in the women’s 3,000 meters.

In preliminary rounds of the men’s 60 meters, Andrew Bamberg ran a qualifying time of 7.14 to reach the finals, where he improved to a personal-best 7.09 and placed seventh overall. Jay Bowles recorded a new personal best of 7.44 but did not advance past preliminaries.

Elise Brown set a personal record in the women’s mile with her fourth-place finish at 5:04.70, while Dorcas Naibei finished sixth with a time of 5:24.81. In field events, Quin Tandeih threw for a personal best of 13.95 meters in the women’s weight throw and finished third.

The women’s 500 meters saw Jasper Newton place fourth (1:17.86) and Maria Alduan finish sixth (1:18.54), both achieving new personal marks.

This meet marked the end of Tulane’s regular indoor season as they prepare for next week’s American Conference Indoor Championship in Birmingham, Alabama, beginning February 27.
