Tulane University head women’s basketball coach Ashley Langford announced on Apr. 16 a series of changes to her coaching staff for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
The adjustments include the return of Harlyn Wyatt, a Tulane alumna, as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Shyan Mwai will now serve solely as an assistant coach, while Johnny Flores takes on additional responsibilities as video coordinator alongside his role as graduate assistant coach.
Wyatt played for Tulane from 2015 to 2019, earning nearly 700 points and almost 600 rebounds during her collegiate career. She is ninth in program history for blocks per game and total denials. After graduating, Wyatt spent three seasons at Memphis in similar coaching roles, where she contributed to player development and team success. Her previous experience also includes coaching at Gardner-Webb University and beginning her career at the University of Nevada. “We are excited to bring another Tulane alum back home,” said Langford. “Harlyn carries tremendous pride for Tulane basketball and is a proven winner here. Between her time as a player and her time coaching at Memphis, she knows this league inside and out and what it takes to win at this level.”
Mwai joined Tulane’s staff with Langford before the 2024-25 campaign after working together at Stony Brook University. Since joining the Green Wave, Mwai has helped guide players who have received several conference honors including American Freshman of the Year awards and All-Conference selections. “Shy has been a part of my staff the longest, and she has made a massive impact in her time with Tulane,” said Langford.
Flores began his involvement with Tulane women’s basketball in various support roles starting in 2021 before becoming graduate assistant coach last season. He now adds video coordinator duties after assisting Mwai previously in that capacity. Flores’s tenure coincides with several team achievements such as multiple WNIT appearances and individual player accolades within the American Athletic Conference (AAC). “Johnny has been here for a long time, so he knows Tulane and this program well,” said Langford.
These staffing updates aim to round out Langford’s leadership team heading into next season.
