Tulane University’s women’s golf team began its spring season at the Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton, Florida, hosted by Florida Atlantic. After the first round of play, the Green Wave ranked 13th out of 16 teams with a team score of 311 (+22) in the opening 18 holes.
The team performed well in terms of birdies, tying for second among all teams with a total of 12 birdies during the round. Sophia Chen led Tulane with four birdies, placing her tied for fourth overall in that category for the day.
Chen also posted the team’s best individual score, finishing with a 76 (+4), which put her in 40th place after one round. Teammates Sophia Macias and Francesca Pompa each recorded scores of 77 (+5), tying them for 46th overall. Both Macias and Pompa had three birdies apiece, ranking them tied for 12th among the tournament’s 90 players.
Cristiana Albertazzi and Gabriella Gilrowski completed Tulane’s starting lineup, both shooting an 80 (+8) and ending the day tied for 68th place. Each player contributed one birdie to Tulane’s total.
The tournament continues Tuesday at Osprey Point Golf Course as Tulane looks to improve its standing in the second round.
