Tulane women’s golf sits fifth after first round at Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational

Tulane University’s women’s golf team is in fifth place after the first round of the Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational, which began Tuesday at Palmas Del Mar Country Club – Flamboyan Course. The tournament is hosted by Ball State and features eight teams.

The Green Wave recorded a team score of 306 (+18), trailing Georgia State and Central Arkansas by seven strokes at the end of day one.

Gabriella Gilrowski and Francesca Pompa led Tulane’s efforts, both finishing in the top ten individually. Gilrowski ended her round tied for sixth with a score of 74 (+2). She made three birdies, tying for fifth-most in the opening round, and led the tournament on par threes with an average of 2.75 strokes.

Pompa finished tied for ninth after shooting a 75 (+3). She tallied four birdies—three of them on par five holes—tying for third in that category for the round and finishing two under par on those holes.

Cristina Albertazzi was next for Tulane, tying for 24th with a score of 78 (+6). Tonka Zacharovska followed closely, tying for 31st after posting a 79 (+7). Sophia Chen rounded out Tulane’s lineup, tying for 39th with an opening-round score of 81 (+9).

The second round will begin Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Tulane players are set to begin on holes one through five alongside competitors from Ball State and Tarleton State.
