Tulane women’s tennis defeats North Texas with strong doubles and singles performances

Tulane University’s women’s tennis team secured a 4-0 victory over North Texas in a neutral site match at the Hoover Met Tennis Center on Saturday. With this result, Tulane improved its season record to 7-6, while North Texas moved to 9-5.

The doubles matches set the tone for Tulane’s win. Campbell Ricci and Summer Chandler won their third straight match at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 score. The pairing of Micah Pierce and Leigh Van Zyl clinched the doubles point for Tulane by winning 6-4 at No. 2.

In singles play, Summer Chandler earned a straight sets win at No. 2 singles, defeating Carolina Laydner 6-4, 6-3. Micah Pierce followed with a win at No. 5 singles against Giulianna Ciangherot, finishing 6-3, 6-1. Natalia Fantini completed the sweep with a clinching victory at No. 6 singles over Ujin Batsukh, posting scores of 6-4 and 6-2.

Several other singles matches went unfinished as Tulane reached four points first.

Tulane is scheduled to play UAB next on Sunday at noon. UAB currently holds a record of 4-7 after losing to North Texas in their previous match.
