The Tulane women’s tennis team lost a close contest to #56 Rice by a score of 4-3 on March 15 at the Goldring Tennis Center.

The match was significant for both teams, with Rice improving its overall record to 8-5 and Tulane dropping to 7-8. The result highlights the competitive nature of collegiate women’s tennis and the narrow margins that can decide matches.

Tulane found success in doubles play, as Campbell Ricci and Summer Chandler defeated the nationally ranked pair of Darya Schwartzman and Uma Bakaityte, who are ranked 74th. In singles, Natalia Perez and Micah Pierce each won their matches in straight sets at positions three and six, while Natalia Fantini secured a three-set victory at position five. However, Rice clinched the win by taking singles matches at positions one, two, and four.

Before the match began, Tulane honored seniors Micah Pierce and Leigh Van Zyl during a pre-match ceremony. The event recognized their contributions to the program as they near the end of their collegiate careers.

Looking ahead, Tulane is scheduled to play Murray State at City Park Tennis Center on Wednesday at 1 p.m., followed by a home match against UNO at Goldring Tennis Center on Thursday at 2 p.m. These upcoming contests provide opportunities for the Green Wave to improve their record as the season continues.
