The Tulane women’s tennis team won against the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) with a 4-1 victory on Apr. 16 in the first round of the American Conference Championship held at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston.
This win allows Tulane, seeded seventh, to advance further in the tournament with an overall record now standing at 11-11. The result marks the end of UTSA’s season, which finished with a 9-11 record and no wins away from home this spring.
In doubles play, Tulane’s Campbell Ricci and Summer Chandler, ranked No. 63 nationally, secured a win with a score of 6-2. However, UTSA claimed victories in the other two doubles matches to take the opening point. Ricci and Chandler have achieved a season record of nine wins and three losses as partners.
Tulane recovered strongly during singles competition by winning all four top positions in straight sets. Natalia Perez clinched the match for Tulane after defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Looking ahead, Tulane will face second-seeded Charlotte—ranked No. 30 nationally—at 2 p.m. on Friday. The teams previously met on March 13 in New Orleans where Charlotte won by a score of 4-1; Natalia Fantini was responsible for Tulane’s only point during that encounter.
