Tulane women’s tennis falls to FIU 4-2 after weather delay

Tulane University’s women’s tennis team lost to Florida International University by a score of 4-2 in Miami on April 2. The match was delayed for two and a half hours due to inclement weather.

The loss brings Tulane’s season record to 9-9, while FIU improved its record to 8-8. The Green Wave’s doubles team of Campbell Ricci and Summer Chandler, ranked No. 72 nationally, won their match at the top spot with a score of 6-3. However, FIU secured the doubles point by winning the other two matches.

In singles play, Micah Pierce earned Tulane’s first point with a straight-set victory at the No. 5 position, winning 6-2, 6-3. Natalia Fantini added another point for Tulane with a win at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-3), extending her singles record this spring to ten wins and three losses with nine consecutive victories.

Other results included Campbell Ricci falling in three sets at No.1 singles and Leigh Van Zyl losing at No.3 singles for Tulane. The second singles match between Summer Chandler and Vittoria Baccino was unfinished when play concluded.

Tulane is scheduled to face Florida Atlantic University next on Saturday at 11 a.m Eastern Time/10 a.m Central Time. FAU currently holds a season record of six wins and eight losses.
