Tulane women’s basketball lost to Tulsa 65-46 at the Reynolds Center on Tuesday night. Tulane led after the first quarter, 14-10, but Tulsa outscored them 39-17 over the second and third quarters. With this result, Tulane’s record stands at 10-17 overall and 5-10 in the American Athletic Conference, while Tulsa improved to 18-9 overall and 10-5 in conference play.
Tulane had a higher field goal percentage than Tulsa, shooting 33.3 percent compared to Tulsa’s 31.5 percent. However, Tulsa made nine three-pointers while Tulane made three. Rebounding was also a factor as Tulsa held a 48-36 advantage overall and a 22-7 edge in offensive rebounds. Tulane committed 17 turnovers compared to nine by Tulsa but recorded more blocks with five to Tulsa’s three.
Jayda Brown and Mecailin Marshall led Tulane in scoring with 12 points each. Brown added three assists and two steals. Kanija Daniel and Shiloh Kimpson each contributed one steal. Dyllan Hanna led the team with eight rebounds, followed by Amira Mabry with six. Daniel and Mabry also shared the team lead in blocks with two apiece.
The game started with an early layup from Hanna for Tulane, followed by free throws from Daniel for a quick lead. After some back-and-forth scoring that included several three-pointers from both teams, Tulane finished the first quarter ahead.
Tulsa responded strongly in the second quarter and took control of the game through their outside shooting and rebounding advantage. By halftime, they led 30-25.
In the third quarter, Tulsa opened with a series of unanswered points, outscoring Tulane significantly before Daniel broke their run with a layup. By the end of the third period, Tulsa had built an 18-point lead.
Marshall scored nine straight points for Tulane in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to close the gap as Tulsa continued to score consistently.
Tulane will return home to face Wichita State on Saturday, February 28 at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse for senior day and Black History Month celebrations. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., will be streamed on ESPN+, and can be heard on WRBH 88.3 FM or via the Varsity Network App.
