The New Orleans Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at the Super 8 Motel located at 6322 Chef Menteur Highway on April 4. Firefighters arrived shortly after receiving a call at 6:31 p.m. and observed heavy flames and smoke coming from a third-floor room at the front of the building.
The incident led to concerns for occupant safety due to the motel’s occupancy, prompting firefighters to strike a second alarm for additional personnel. According to officials, firefighters were able to contain and confine the blaze to its room of origin, preventing it from spreading further in the building.
A total of 30 people were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross was contacted to assist with their possible relocation, according to information released by city authorities. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction.
No injuries were reported among occupants or firefighters during this incident. In total, fifty-two New Orleans Fire Department personnel responded with eighteen units on scene.
