The University of New Orleans track and field program set two school records and earned four medals on the final day of the 2026 Southland Outdoor Championships, according to a May 16 announcement.
The achievements highlight a strong performance for both men’s and women’s teams as they competed at Bryce Homer Stadium. The men’s 4×100-meter relay team—composed of Yoran Kabengele-Kabala, Olamipo Ladipo, Keldrick Turner, and Daryl Bachmann—set a new school record with a time of 39.40 seconds, surpassing the previous mark from the 2024 NCAA East Regional. This result places them at No. 17 in the NCAA East Region rankings.
Shortly after, Turner broke another school record by winning gold in the 400 meters with a time of 45.183 seconds. His finish is now the second-fastest in Southland Outdoor Championship history and ranks third all-time within conference history. Turner has broken this particular UNO record three times during the season and currently holds a No. 13 national ranking in his event.
Turner also took bronze in the men’s 200 meters with a personal best of 20.61 seconds—the fifth fastest ever recorded at UNO—and moved up to second place on UNO’s all-time list behind Ismael Kone. Kabengele-Kabala added another medal for New Orleans by finishing third in the men’s 100 meters with a time of 10.24 seconds; he also contributed points with an eighth-place finish in the men’s 200-meter final.
For women’s events, their relay team placed sixth in both the sprint (4x100m) and longer distance (4x400m) relays while Anais Sulpice scored points through top-eight finishes in both her races: sixth place for her personal-best run over fifteen hundred meters (4:29.43) and eighth place over eight hundred meters (2:15.56). Freshmen Alexa Daverio and Landen Juneau each achieved new personal bests during their respective five-thousand meter races.
The New Orleans men finished ninth overall—a two-spot improvement from last year—while women placed twelfth among competing schools as Stephen F. Austin claimed victory on men’s side; Northwestern State led women’s standings.
Looking ahead, several Privateers are expected to compete at NCAA East Regional events scheduled for May 27–30 in Lexington, Kentucky.
