Tulane’s baseball team lost to UTSA by a score of 8-2 on Saturday night, April 25, at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. UTSA scored six runs in the opening inning and maintained their lead throughout the game.
The result impacts Tulane’s standing in the American Athletic Conference as they now hold a record of 21-23 overall and 7-10 in conference play. Early scoring by UTSA proved decisive, with Tulane unable to recover from the deficit.
Jake Toporek started for Tulane but allowed six runs while recording only one out before being relieved. Blaise Wilcenski pitched over four innings in relief, allowing two runs and striking out three batters. The rest of the bullpen limited further damage; Julius Ejike-Charles, Caden Tarango, and Michael Devenney combined for several scoreless innings with multiple strikeouts.
Offensively, Jason Wachs and Trent Liolios each had two hits and scored a run for Tulane. James Agabedis drove in both of Tulane’s runs with a single in the eighth inning. Jack Johnson added a hit and drew a walk while several other players reached base via walks.
UTSA’s Conor Myles earned his seventh win of the season by pitching six scoreless innings with just three hits allowed. Key moments included Caden Miller’s solo home run to start the game, Christian Hallmark’s RBI single, Cade Sadler’s grand slam in the first inning, and Diego Diaz’s two-run homer in the fifth.
Tulane will conclude its series against UTSA on Sunday afternoon at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
