Wichita State defeats Tulane in women’s tennis dual match

Wichita State University’s women’s tennis team secured a 4-0 victory over Tulane University on Sunday morning in Wichita, Kansas. The Shockers claimed the doubles point and won all three completed singles matches, marking their seventh consecutive win and improving their season record to 9-3. Tulane’s record moved to 3-5 after the loss.

In doubles play, Wichita State’s No. 1 pair, Giorgia Roselli and Xin Tong Wang, defeated Summer Chandler and Leigh Van Zyl of Tulane 6-3. Kristina Kudryavtseva and Theodora Chantava earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles against Micah Pierce and Campbell Ricci. Tulane’s Natalia Fantini and Natalia Perez were leading their No. 3 doubles match 5-3 when it was left unfinished.

During singles competition, at the top spot Campbell Ricci of Tulane won the first set against Xin Tong Wang and led in the second set when the overall match was decided. At No. 2 singles, Giorgia Roselli defeated Summer Chandler 6-2, 6-1. Kristina Kudryavtseva won her match at No. 4 singles against Leigh Van Zyl with scores of 6-1, 6-2, while Palmy Vimuktananda took a straight-set win over Micah Pierce at No. 5 singles.

Several matches were not completed as Wichita State clinched the victory before play concluded on all courts.

Tulane will play its first-ever match at Goldring Tennis Center on Friday when it hosts UTSA for a scheduled match at 1 p.m.
