The name of the Department of English and Foreign Languages, housed within the College of Liberal Arts, Education and Human Development at the University of New Orleans, has been changed to the Department of Language and Literature.
The name change, approved Aug. 24 by the Louisiana Board of Regents, was made to better describe the nature of the curricula in the three bachelor degree programs in Spanish, French and English; the two graduate degree programs in Romance Languages and English; and the MFA in creative writing.
The department’s new name also more accurately identifies and reflects the courses in cultural and literary studies within the degree programs, according to department chair Elaine Brooks.
