NOPD Investigating Homicide in Sixth District

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred during the early morning hours today (July 6, 2023), in the 1000 block of Loyola Avenue that left one person dead.

At about 12:03 a.m., NOPD Sixth District detectives were notified of a report of shots fired at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he later expired.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive. No additional details are currently available.  

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and determine official cause of death upon completion of the autopsy and notification of the family.
