NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell today issued the following statement on the City Council's vote on street cart vending in the French Quarter:

"My administration recognizes the long and diverse history of vending in the French Quarter and in other parts of the city,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

“These small business owners contribute to the culture and uniqueness of New Orleans that is embraced by locals and millions of visitors from around the world. Today's vote by the City Council to pass the new street cart vending ordinance marks a step in the right direction to expand and diversify small business opportunities not only in the French Quarter but throughout the city. We are hopeful that this change will encourage and assist in transitioning our vital culture bearers into legitimate thriving entrepreneurs to set themselves, as well as our local economy, up for success."
