U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced the sentencing of Lorenzo Alexander Benitez, a 40-year-old citizen of El Salvador, by United States District Judge Susie Morgan. On November 7, 2024, Benitez was sentenced to two years of probation following his guilty plea for illegal reentry after removal, violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

Court documents reveal that Benitez admitted to illegally reentering the United States after being deported on July 27, 2018. He was apprehended by law enforcement on April 29, 2024, while driving on Interstate 610 in New Orleans.

U.S. Attorney Evans commended the efforts of United States Customs and Border Patrol in investigating the case. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit.
