NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans Bureau of Treasury today announced that homeowners in Orleans Parish will receive their 2024 property tax bills at the end of January 2024. This change is due to a scheduled public hearing on Jan. 18, 2024, by the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) to determine whether to roll their millage rates forward.
Millage payments are collected by the City and distributed to the taxing authorities to provide needed tax revenue within their annual budgets that cover projected expenses, including roads, schools, emergency services and more. OPSB is considering a “roll forward” that will restore their 2023 millage rate for 2024 after the mandatory roll down required of all authorities following a quadrennial reappraisal.
The Jan. 18 hearing to decide whether OPSB should "roll forward" will be determined after scheduled tax collections for 2024 begin. The process, which also includes requirements of the Louisiana Legislative Auditor, will require the Bureau of Treasury to issue delayed tax bills.
Homeowners will receive their bills by mail and will also have access to tax bills online at nola.gov/find-tax-bill/. Taxpayers will have until Feb. 29, 2024, to submit payments before interest accrues monthly at one percent.
The Bureau of Treasury offers several different ways tax payments can be submitted to make the payment process easier.
