NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell today issued the following statement bidding farewell to Gov. John Bel Edwards as the 56th Governor of the State of Louisiana:

"I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to Gov. John Bel Edwards for your outstanding leadership and dedicated service as the 56th Governor of the State of Louisiana," said Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

"Your unwavering commitment to 'putting Louisiana first' has been truly exemplary. I applaud you for confronting unprecedented challenges with resilience and determination. From your work to reach across the aisle to work with Republicans and Democrats regarding Louisiana's largest budget deficit to responding to the COVID-19 pandemic to championing criminal justice reform and responding to natural disasters, such as hurricanes and tornadoes, your visionary approach and decisive actions guided the state through tumultuous times, fostering positive change and ensuring Louisiana's continued success.

Together, we ensured the passing of the historic Fair Share Agreement, involving one-time funding and tax reallocation for New Orleans' critical infrastructure, which further stands as a testament to your commitment to putting Louisiana first.

The City of New Orleans is grateful for your remarkable contributions and the significant influence you've had on both the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans. I wish you continued success and fulfillment in all your future endeavors."
