Honduran national pleads guilty to illegal reentry in New Orleans

A Honduran national has pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal reentry of a deported alien, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced on July 10, 2024. Marlon Efrain Chavez Aguirre, age 50, admitted to reentering the United States illegally after being previously deported on September 24, 2012.

Chavez Aguirre faces a potential sentence of up to two years imprisonment, one year of supervised release, a fine up to $250,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

U.S. District Court Judge Greg G. Guidry has scheduled the sentencing for October 15, 2024.

U.S. Attorney Evans commended the efforts of United States Customs and Border Patrol in investigating the case. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution.
