Postal employee indicted for destruction of mail

United States Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Jorry Harrison, age 36, of Houma, Louisiana, was indicted on July 11, 2024, for destruction of mail in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1703.

According to the indictment, Harrison, a postal employee, unlawfully secreted, destroyed, detained, delayed, and opened multiple parcels of mail on October 25, 2023. One of these parcels was described as a large brown package.

If convicted, Harrison faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment, up to three years supervised release, a fine up to $250,000.00 and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that the indictment is merely a charge and that guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the United States Postal Service's Office of the Inspector General. Assistant United States Attorney Christine Calogero of the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
