United States Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced the sentencing of Edmond Trueblood, a 38-year-old resident of New Orleans. Trueblood was sentenced on September 26, 2024, by Chief U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. This offense violates Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8). The sentence includes 62 months of imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
Court documents reveal that Trueblood had prior felony convictions in Orleans Parish, which legally barred him from possessing firearms. Despite this prohibition, on May 22, 2023, he was found with a stolen Glock Model 48 nine-millimeter semi-automatic pistol in his possession while in New Orleans.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that unites various levels of law enforcement with community efforts to curb violent crime and gun violence. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021. This strategy emphasizes fostering trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
U.S. Attorney Evans commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department for their roles in investigating the case. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney James N. Ollinger from the Violent Crime Unit prosecuted the case.
