Orlian Cabrera-Joa, 32, was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison on October 2, 2024. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo after Cabrera-Joa pleaded guilty to charges related to the distribution and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. In addition to the prison term, Cabrera-Joa will serve three years of supervised release and pay a $200 mandatory special assessment fee.

The charges against Cabrera-Joa stem from a traffic stop in St. John the Baptist Parish, where Louisiana State Police Troopers discovered approximately six kilograms of fentanyl concealed in a suitcase inside his truck.

This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. OCDETF aims to dismantle high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations through a coordinated effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

The investigation involved the Drug Enforcement Administration, Louisiana State Police, and St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn E. Schiffman of the Narcotics Unit prosecuted the case.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced Cabrera-Joa's sentencing for violating Title 21, United States Code Sections related to drug trafficking offenses.
