United States Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced the sentencing of Wilfredo Garcia-Hernandez, a 31-year-old Honduran national, for transporting illegal aliens. Garcia had previously pleaded guilty to violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1324(a)(1)(A)(ii).

Court documents reveal that Garcia was stopped by a United States Border Patrol agent near Slidell, Louisiana. During the traffic stop, it was discovered that he was transporting two illegal aliens from Texas to Georgia for employment purposes.

United States District Judge Brandon S. Long sentenced Garcia to time served and imposed three years of supervised release along with a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

U.S. Attorney Evans commended the efforts of the United States Border Patrol in investigating this case. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Jon M. Maestri of the General Crimes Unit.
