Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several pressing issues via social media this week, emphasizing concerns about the current administration's policies. His statements focus on perceived threats to Social Security services and mental health funding.

On April 15, Carter expressed his discontent with the administration's handling of Social Security services. He stated, "The Musk-Trump administration is working overtime to gut Social Security customer service by slashing the workforce, shuttering offices, and ending phone support. Social Security is an EARNED benefit, and they’re trying to make it harder for people to access it. We won’t stop". This highlights his concerns over potential barriers affecting Social Security accessibility.

The following day, on April 16, Carter drew attention to mental health issues in Louisiana and the country at large. He highlighted alarming statistics, noting that "Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death among ages 10–34 in Louisiana. Since 2022, over 2 million people nationwide have called @988Lifeline during moments of crisis. The proposed cuts to vital mental health funding during an ongoing national crisis are dangerous and". This reflects his concern over the impact of financial cuts on mental health services during a national crisis.

Carter's advocacy is rooted in his long tenure in public service. He has been in the U.S. Congress since 2021, following a history of service in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and the Louisiana Senate. Carter resides in New Orleans, his birthplace, and is an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana.
