30 percent of applicants to Southern University at New Orleans were admitted for fall 2018

At Southern University at New Orleans, 53 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 72 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in New Orleans enrolled 2,356 students in fall 2018, including 1,928 in undergraduate and 428 in graduate programs, data shows. 14.7 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

93 percent of undergraduates are residents of Louisiana, and 4 percent are residents of other states. 3 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as Black or African American (71 percent) and white (2 percent).

The school admitted 30 percent of the 1,047 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 64 percent enrolled.
