Xavier University of Louisiana continues its legacy of excellence through the prodigious work of its most recent cohort of alums and its newest accolade as the #3 Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the nation for economic return on investment according to a new analysis by Degree Choices. Degree Choices reviewed more than 2,000 four-year colleges and universities using data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and College Scorecard for medium economic output, and their research has recognized the prowess of the Xavier degree. Beyond its recognition as the #3 HBCU, Xavier also ranks as the #1 best HBCU and among the top 10 of all colleges and universities in Louisiana.

Degree Choices ranks colleges and universities by assigning them an economic score based on the return on investment that a student can expect upon graduation from that school. Economic score is calculated based on the cost of a student’s education compared to the earnings they can reasonably expect after graduation and how these earnings compare to a market-wide benchmark. According to this analysis, Xavier University of Louisiana ranks as one of the top HBCUs nationally and the top HBCU in Louisiana.“Xavier University of Louisiana has, for a very long time, punched above its weight class in graduating the next generation of great leaders and change-makers,” said Dr. Reynold Verret, President of Xavier University of Louisiana. “As we approach 100 years of service, we strive to continue that tradition for the many Xavierites who currently walk and will one day walk our hallowed halls.”

The average length of time to repay the cost of a Xavier University of Louisiana education is 3.2 years. The statistics used in this research are reflected in the success of Xavier’s graduates. For Xavier University of Louisiana’s class of 2022, 98% of graduates who received a bachelor’s degree were either employed after graduation or continued their education in graduate or professional programs. Many ambitious graduates chose both. The most popular industries for Xavier graduates employed after graduation were the health sciences, human services, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields, respectively. Likewise, for those who chose to continue their education, health professions and related programs were the most popular programs among the 2022 Xavier graduates.

These numbers and facts highlight the long tradition of Xavier University preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.
